The Chicago Cubs were a professional baseball team on Earth, based in the city of Chicago. They were one of the longest running teams in baseball history, joining the National League in 1876, and continuing until the demise of the sport on a professional level in 2042.

The New Chicago Cubs of the Cestus Baseball League were named after the historic franchise, the only team so honored. Unfortunately, the New Chicago Cubs carried on their namesake's tendency to perennially disappoint fans. (ST novel: Articles of the Federation)
