Chion particle radiation is a form of radiation given off by large concentrations of tylatium. Concentrated chion particle flux can affect starship thermal protection units in plasma transfer conduits, potentially leading to a warp core breach. Chion particle radiation was detected at Cestus III in the wake of the Gorn attack in 2267, and was also believed to be the cause of the destruction of the USS Amhurst.
