Cilia are a type of anatomical adaptation of a lifeform body used as a motor or manipulative appendage, usually arranged in groups for effectiveness.

Cilia were a part of the body found on Horta, the underside of Hortas were covered with numerous cilia which they used to move about on. (DS9 novel: Devil in the Sky, TOS episode: "The Devil in the Dark")
