The Cochrane (NCC-74656/04) was a Federation Type-9 shuttlecraft in service to Starfleet in the late 24th century. She was assigned to USS Voyager.
In 2372, the Cochrane was outfitted with transwarp drive and became the first Starfleet vessel to break the transwarp threshold. The technology was abandoned when it was learned that such a speed induces hyper-evolution. (VOY episode: "Threshold")
In 2373, the shuttle was briefly lost in a interfold layer, a region between space and subspace. While investigating an eddy, Tom Paris' shuttle was pulled into the interfold layer. Tom Paris was able to return to normal space by positioning the shuttle on the leading edge of a newly-forming eddy. (VOY episode: "Real Life")
In 2374, the shuttle was used during an attempt to recover Voyager's warp core, but it was soon destroyed by the Caatati. (VOY episode & novelization: Day of Honor)
