A commando frigate was a starship classification applied to a battle-outfitted variant of a frigate starship, specifically designed to carry an extra complement of troops for landing, booarding or onboard defense. The extra room for away team personnel is compensated for by a decrease in the amount and capability of other ship systems, such as weapons. (ST video game: Starfleet Command)
