The flight controller (also referred to as conn) is a crewperson serving aboard a Federation starship and is assigned the duty of piloting the vessel. During the 23rd century, the flight controllers were referred to as helmsmen. (TNG reference: Star Trek: The Next Generation Technical Manual)
