History
Edit
The shuttle was assigned to the USS Enterprise-D in the early 2360s, when that starship was commissioned. Copernicus was the latest of a series of shuttles to bear that name, with previous examples having been assigned to the earlier USS Enterprise and USS Enterprise-A.
In 2364, the Copernicus was stolen by an Enterprise resident, Jake Kurland. Despite a brief emergency when the shuttle's power systems were accidentally stalled, both the pilot and the shuttle were successfully retrieved by an order from Captain Jean-Luc Picard. (TNG episode: "Coming of Age")
