The corona is the outermost layer of a star's atmosphere which is made of plasma and is hotter than the underlying photosphere.

When the USS Enterprise came under attack by eight Klingon warships in 2275, the Enterprise managed to lure one vessel, the IKS Amak, in the corona of 102 Piscium where it's hull buckled and the ship was destroyed. (TOS novel: The Wounded Sky)

In 2372, the astrophysics department aboard the USS Enterprise-E reported that that the corona of Pantera had become increasingly unstable and was on a build-up to produce flare activity. (TNG eBook: A Sea of Troubles)
