Corporal was a rank grade within many different organizations. This rank falls below sergeant and above private in military and infantry forces. There are sometimes multiple grades of corporals, including lance corporal.

The Klingon Defense Force has been known to employ a rank, Da', which means "corporal" in translation to Federation Standard. (ST reference: The Klingon Dictionary)

This rank existed within the MACO forces of the United Earth, the MACO forces of the Terran Empire, and the Bajoran Militia. This rank has also been awarded to members of the Starfleet Ground Attack Marines. (Star Trek: Enterprise; ENT episode: "In a Mirror, Darkly"; Star Trek: Deep Space Nine; TNG novel: The Forgotten War)

In 2268, the rank existed in the Ekosian SS. A SS corporal was guarding the Ekosian Chancellery when Daras arrived to listen to a speech from John Gill. (TOS episode & Star Trek 12 novelization: Patterns of Force)

In the year 2251, Leonard McCoy met a cadet whose military bearing did not impress the young medic. In order to parody the young man's demeanor, McCoy twice referred to Cadet James T. Kirk as "corporal", once as "Corporal Goose-Step", referring to a Nazi style of marching. Both Cadet Kirk and Ensign Spock corrected McCoy's facetious mistake. (TOS - Starfleet Academy novel: Cadet Kirk)
