- See Crane for other articles with titles that contain, either by relationship or by coincidence, this character's surname.
During the Farragut's mission to Tycho IV in 2257, Crane was working in a Jefferies tube near deck 17 to perform repairs on the ship's impulse drive, when the ship was attacked by the dikironium cloud creature. He was amongst two hundred crewmen killed by the creature. Lieutenant James T. Kirk discovered his body when he had to gain access to the tube in order to complete the repairs.
