The Craynid are an insectoid species. The only one shown has a hunched posture, round black eyes set into a massive head, and skin that is pale, almost translucent. Craynids are known for having large offsprings, sometimes with numbers in the hundreds. They walked in a strange, shuffling step that was slow and painful-looking. They were also not known for duplicity, as no known recorded incident occurred in several hundred years as of the 24th century.
In the 2370s, Graal was one of four Craynid in Starfleet, and the only female among the four to be serving. (DS9 novel: Saratoga)
