Data finds a pattern in the attacks on Tholian outposts. Jean-Luc Picard convinces First Officer Nethrax to assist the Enterprise-D after Gowron gives permission to pursue the stolen Klingon starship, the Taj. While Picard deals with the Tholian commander, William Riker, Geordi La Forge, and Data leave with Nethrax. Upon finding the Taj, they discover that the ship is commanded by a Borg named Enab, rather than Hugh as they expected. Enab and his followers are searching for the secret of the Tholian hive mind, in hopes of returning to their old ways. With help from the Enterprise-D crew, the Tholians capture the renegade Borg and peace is restored.
