The Dauntless-class was a Tier 6 Federation science vessel class conceived by Arturis of Species 116 in 2374. The class prototype, USS Dauntless was a fake Starfleet ship built to fool the crew of USS Voyager. The design was adapted by the Starfleet Corps of Engineers and put into production as genuine Starfleet science vessel in 2410 as part of Operation Delta Rising. The Dauntless-class was equipped with a particle synthesis console. (VOY episode: "Hope and Fear", ST video game: Star Trek Online)

SpecificationsEdit

Arturis, one of the few survivors of Species 116, built the USS Dauntless with a quantum slipstream drive to lure Voyager's crew aboard. Arturis held them responsible for the assimilation of his species at the hands of the Borg Collective by stopping Species 8472 from annihilating the Borg in 2374. Voyager's crew uncovered his plot, and the Dauntless was captured by the Borg in 116's home system. (VOY episode: "Hope and Fear")

The exposure to the Dauntless' systems enabled Starfleet to develop its own QSD. (VOY episode: "Timeless"; VOY novel: Full Circle)

In 2410, the Federation gained additional data about the class in the Delta Quadrant, which allowed the Starfleet Corps of Engineers to put the Dauntless-class into production. It was equipped with a particle synthesis console, which allowed the Dauntless-class to mimic an enemy vessel and project its own image unto opponents. (ST video game: Star Trek Online)

The technology is reminiscent of the holographic emitters employed on the USS Incursion and Shadow-class science vessels. (TNG video game: Armada II)

A Dauntless-class starship was 205 meters long. (ST reference: The Official Starships Collection)

Ships of the class required a minimum rank of Vice Admiral of a commanding officer. (ST video game: Star Trek Online)

HistoryEdit

The class prototype was built by Species 116 survivor Arturis in 2374 following the defeat of Species 8472 by the Borg-Voyager alliance. The fake Starfleet vessel was captured by the Borg with Arturis on board. (VOY episode: "Hope and Fear")

In 2410, the class went into production as genuine Starfleet vessel. (ST video game: Star Trek Online)

Alternate timelineEdit

In a timeline where the Delphic Expanse was not destroyed in 2154, a Dauntless-class starship participated in the Battle of Procyon V in the 26th century. In this battle the Federation defeated the Sphere Builders. (ENT episode: "Azati Prime")
