For the mirror universe counterpart, see Dava Nikende (mirror).

Dava Nikende was a Bajoran male who served as Kai hundreds of years prior to the 24th century, before Bajor had become united as a single world. He was considered one of Bajor's greatest spiritual leaders.

Dava was one of few people to have had an orb experience with the Orb of Souls. Dava foresaw that the Orb of Prophecy and Change could be threatened and kept it hidden, for it to be available for the Emissary of the Prophets. (TLE - Terok Nor novel: Night of the Wolves; DS9 novel: Fearful Symmetry)

During his orb experience, he made contact with his mirror universe counterpart, who was likewise the Kai of Bajor. The Kai Dava of the mirror universe entrusted him with a paghvaram, a fragment of one of the Orbs of the Prophets, as he foresaw that the Terran Empire would conquer Bajor in 2255 and destroy the Orbs. This may have been the first direct contact between the two universes. (DS9 novel: The Soul Key)

During his life, Dava wore the paghvaram around the palm of his hand until the day he died. The paghvaram disappeared after Dava's death. (DS9 novel: Fearful Symmetry)

It was kept in the village of Sidau in Hedrikspool Province until it was stolen by Iliana Ghemor in 2376. (DS9 novel: The Soul Key)

One of Kai Dava's most famed saying was, "It is in the time of struggle that we must become one." Opaka Fasil used this quote while arguing with his mother, Vedek Opaka Sulan, about ending the Bajoran D'jarras. (TLE - Terok Nor novel: Night of the Wolves)

Following the Borg Invasion of 2381, Prylar Hon Avid used this same quote during a memorial service on Berengaria VII. (ST novel: A Singular Destiny)

Dava was first mentioned in Night of the Wolves and his given name was established in Fearful Symmetry.
