Dax is a Trill symbiont who has had many notable hosts throughout history. Born in 2018, there have been a total of ten individuals who have hosted the Dax Symbiont.

- Tobin (22nd century) - Scientist who worked with Skon on one of the first transporters
- Emony (23rd century) - Famed gymnast
- Audrid (?-2284) - Head of the Trill Symbiosis Commission
- Torias (2284) - Test pilot who worked with Captain Styles and Cadet Saavik
- Joran (2284-2285) - Musician and serial killer
- Curzon (2285-2367)- A Federation Ambassador to the Klingon Empire
- Jadzia (2367-2374)- A Starfleet science officer
- Ezri (2374-?) - Former Starfleet counselor, Present Captain of the USS Aventine
In addition to those main hosts Verad Kalon stole Dax from Jadzia in 2370 and was joined for a short time. (DS9 episode: "Invasive Procedures")
- The DS9 novel: Valhalla establishes a further host, Penzak Dax, who hosted the symbiont sometime prior to Jadzia, however the existence of this host incompatible with the full host history of Dax as established in the DS9 episode: "Facets".

- This is stated to have been when Julian Bashir was still in his infancy, suggesting the host was Curzon.
Alternate Timelines

In an alternate timeline in which the USS Defiant crashed on the planet Gaia, the Dax symbiont eventually passed to Yedrin Dax, the great-grandson of Jadzia and Worf, son of Mogh. (DS9 episode: "Children of Time")
