Deadwood is a small town on Earth located in western South Dakota, which is part of the United States of America. The community is located near the Black Hills region of the state.

A 19th century version of Deadwood was the setting of a holodeck program that Lt. Worf, Alexander Rozhenko, and Counselor Deanna Troi once participated in. In this program, Worf portrayed the local Sheriff who had recently arrested the outlaw Eli Hollander. There was a computer malfunction while the program was running. As a result all the characters were slowly replaced with duplicates of Lt. Commander Data - complete with his speed, strength, and accuracy. Worse, the holodeck safeguards were turned off, making holographic bullets just as lethal as real ones. (TNG episode: "A Fistful of Datas")
