Deep Space 1 was a Federation starbase in operation from 2294 to 2311. It was constructed along the Romulan Neutral Zone in order to protect Federation colonies and spy on the Romulans from across the border. The station was destroyed with a loss of all hands during the Tomed Incident and later replaced by Deep Space 7. (RPG Game Book: Star Trek Deep Space Nine: Core Game Book (LUG RPG))

The TLE novel Serpents Among the Ruins, written about the Tomed Incident, makes no mention of a "Deep Space 1", making this an inconsistency unless it was an alternate name given to one of the bases in the Foxtrot system.
