Deep Space 8 is a Federation starbase currently in the design phase. Design began in 2370 and the base was originally to be constructed along the Romulan Neutral Zone. However, the treaty with the Romulans during the Dominion War led some to question that decision. The current fate of the station is undecided. Presumably, the designation Deep Space 8 had been reserved for this base sometime prior to 2369, when Terok Nor was renamed Deep Space 9.
