Defense Outpost 36 was the nearest Starfleet outpost to Daros.

On stardate 8310.5 (reference stardate 2/1410.21), Starfleet Intelligence agent Commander Michael Thorn had completed his assignment on Daros IV and was returning to Outpost 36. However, he didn't make it: he was ambushed by the Orion piracy vessel Morakos, and captured. An incomplete subspace message reached the outpost, worrying Thorn's superiors with his disappearance.
