Doctor is a title given to a person who has achieved the highest academic degree (or a doctorate) in a field of study. Most commonly, it is used to refer to person who holds a doctorate degree in medicine (also known as physicians), though it is also used for those in other fields of expertise. ^{[citation needed]}
