The Donatu sector was the location where the Klingon Empire battle cruiser IKS Gr'oth was scuttled. Sherman's Planet was located in this sector, as well as the Donatu star system, for which the sector is named. (TLE novel: Excelsior: Forged in Fire)

This sector is situated in the Beta Quadrant, where it is a component of the Eta Eridani sector block. On the side of the Donatu sector closer to the Alpha Quadrant border, the Aldebaran sector neighbors. Opposite, deeper into the Beta Quadrant, is the Archanis sector.
