A "doomsday clock" was, in Earth history, a symbolic representation of how close the world was to ending, measured by the number of minutes to midnight.

In February 2381, due to the Borg invasion, Admiral Leonard James Akaar told Federation President Nanietta Bacco that, if the Federation had a doomsday clock, it would be set at one minute to midnight. (ST - Destiny novel: Gods of Night)
