Dverl was a male Ferengi professor and explorer, noted for speaking with a strong Shploonish Mountain accent. He became famous for joining with fellow explorer Rauplop of Rangahorn on an expedition to the center of the planet Ferenginar. After 83 days, Dverl had gone blind, and yet claimed to see a glow of light from one of the numerous underground passageways. The light, they discovered, turned out to be coming from a huge deposit of pure latinum. Rauplop noted in his diary of the expedition, "Even a blind man can recognize the glow of latinum", which later became the 123rd Rule of Acquisition. Shortly after, Rauplop killed and ate Dverl.

The story of this journey to the center of Ferenginar was later adapted as a holodrama, starring Flynk as Professor Dverl. (DS9 reference: Legends of the Ferengi)
