In an alternate reality, the ESS Enterprise was an Earth starship, a Sovereign-class heavy cruiser in United Earth Starfleet service in the 2380s decade. The Enterprise's commanding officer was Captain Data. (TNG novel: Q & A)
In 2380, the end of the multiverse loomed because They were bored. At the same time, the Enterprise was swept to Gorsach IX in the primary universe by a quantum fissure. When the hostile IKS Qu' attacked the starship native to that universe, the Federation starship USS Enterprise-E, the ESS Enterprise and other Enterprises ordered the Klingons to stand down. Captain Data intervened, protecting the USS Enterprise and firing on the Qu'. When the primary Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Q convinced Them to spare the multiverse, all Enterprises were returned to their native realms and the quantum fissure closed. (TNG novel: Q & A)
