He was the husband of Gretchen Janeway, and the father of two daughters, Kathryn and Phoebe. (VOY novel: Mosaic)
In 2354, Janeway was a vice admiral. He along with Ambassador Curzon Dax represented the Federation in negotiations to bring the Bactricians into the Federation. (DS9 short story: "The Music Between the Notes")
Janeway died in 2358 on Tau Ceti Prime, following the crash of the prototype ship Terra Nova on the planet's polar ice cap. (VOY novel: Mosaic,VOY episode: "Coda")
