Egg salad is a type of food, a salad made from pieces of cooked egg mixed with other garnishes, seasonings and dressing (usually a mayonnaise).

When Captain James T. Kirk ordered an aide to interrupt Admiral Gregor Fortenberry's lunch in 2270, Fortenberry answered the comm with pieces of egg salad stuck in his beard. (TOS - The Lost Years novel: The Lost Years)
