Eidelweiss is a flowering plant native to Earth. It is found primarily at high elevations, and is often used as a symbol for climbing and mountaineering groups.

Will Riker noted that the arboretum on board the USS Enterprise-D did not grow Eidelweiss when he brought flowers to his old friend and fellow climber Lyrinda Halk during her medical recovery in sickbay. (TNG comic: "Thin Ice")
