An elephant appears aboard the USS Enterprise.

An elephant was a large animal native to the African and Asian continents on Earth. They were noted for their characteristic prehensile trunk. (TOS novel: The Rift)

When Harry Mudd's wish-fulfilling artifact known as the Nanny brought the USS Enterprise crew to his planet in 2286, the artifact started granting wishes of various crewmembers. Pavel Chekov accidentally wished up an elephant. (TOS comic: "Mudd's Magic!")

In 2293, Hikaru Sulu explained to anyone interested in carving that elephants produced ivory. (TOS novel: The Fearful Summons)

By 2294, James T. Kirk thought of himself as a white elephant. (TOS novel: The Fearful Summons)

An old human joke ended with the line, "We can't kill a whole elephant for just one steak." In 2296, David Rabin paraphrased this line while he and Spock were stranded in the desert of Obsidian, instead referring to a boktarik, a native reptile. (TOS novel: Vulcan's Forge)

In 2369, Captain Edward Jellico's young son sent him a drawing of an elephant, which he showed to Counselor Deanna Troi, shortly after he took temporary command of the USS Enterprise-D. (TNG episode: "Chain of Command")
