In 2255, pirates from Epsilon Canaris III ambushed the USS Farragut, during which Ensign James T. Kirk was badly injured, but stayed at his post and aided in repelling the pirates. (TOS novel: Crisis on Centaurus)
In 2267, Assistant Commissioner Nancy Hedford had been dispatched to Epsilon Canaris III to prevent the outbreak of war, but left due to developing Sakuro's disease; subsequent events made her return impossible, and necessitated the assignment of another mediator. (TOS episode: "Metamorphosis")
By 2293, the long years of war on Epsilon Canaris III were ended thanks to the determined mediation of Ambassador Alexandra Tremontaine and diplomat Aidan Burgess. (TOS - Crucible novel: The Fire and the Rose, TLE novel: The Sundered)

Alternate timeline[]
In an alternate timeline, Epsilon Canaris III was home to one of Earth's most distant colonies. Being situated close to the Interstellar Coalition, the colony had a thriving black market economy that surpassed its legal mining and agricultural industries. During the mid 23rd century, the colony threatened to become independent, depriving Earth of much needed resources. In response, Ambassador Nancy Hedford was dispatched to reach an agreement, but not before a clash between Earth loyalists and secessionists resulted in the deaths of eleven colonists, and including one alien disguised as a human. Eventually, Hedford found several loopholes in the import-export laws that allowed the colony to legitimately trade in alien goods. (ST - Myriad Universes novel: A Less Perfect Union)
