In 2267, Lieutenant Rodriguez served as a science officer on the USS Enterprise under Captain James T. Kirk. That year, he was a member of the landing party assigned to explore Beta Omicron Delta III. (TOS episode: "Shore Leave")

In 2268, Rodriguez was manning the science station on the bridge when the Enterprise hit a series of subspace distortions while en route to Mu Aurigon V. (TOS novel: A Choice of Catastrophes)
