Faant was the second planet in the Kintir star system in the Klingon Empire in the Beta Quadrant, bordering the Orion Neutrality Area. It was the only class M planet in its system, and it had three moons and a 24 hour-long day.
Faant had a warm temperate climate and a terrestrial class M atmosphere, making it wet and steamy. It was ideal for Klingon food crops, and became an agricultural world for the Empire. It was described by Orion traders as damp, overcrowded, gloomy and uninteresting, and thus perfect for the Klingons themselves.
The native inhabitants of Faant were the Faantines, who did most of the farming on the planet. As well as the Klingons, it was also home to an Orion Colony. The three races got on with relative harmony, but in the late 23rd century their future was uncertain, due to rumors that the planet was being developed as a backup base in case of war with the Federation.
The capital city of Korlath contained a sizable Orion Colony, with about 1.2 million Orions, the planet's dominant race. The civilian governor Anthor concentrated on policing the Orion population. Orion traders often visited the planet; however, Admiral Kazh epetai-Zulor, veteran of the Four Years War and head of the sector's Resources Marshalling Command, restricted the size, tonnage and cargo that the traders could transport to keep the Orions under control. The Faantines, meanwhile, revered the Klingons as deities, and were quick to obey orders.
It had a total surface area of 430,052,600 square kilometers but with only 47% land mass, a total land area of 202,124,720 square kilometers. About 24% of its makeup was radioactive elements and 6% was gemstones, with only trace amounts of normal metals, industrial crystals and other special minerals.
