A fairy (or faerie) was a being from Human mythology, most usually depicted as a miniature humanoid who dwelled in natural wooded areas.

"Fairy tales" -- traditional fantasy stories -- often (but not always) involved fairies.

One particular fairy figure, the Tooth Fairy, achieved a prominence in Earth culture lasting into the 23rd and 24th centuries. (TOS novel: Vulcan!; SCE eBook: Lost Time)

In 2296, Leonard McCoy made a comparison between Vulcans and "faerie folk," citing their pointed ears and their tendency not to age as humans did. (TOS novel: Vulcan's Forge)
