A fairy tale is fiction story involving folklore, legend, mystic and mythological elements. Fairy tales are often aimed at children with the aim of teaching them a moral.

In 2370 in Keiko O'Brien's classroom on Deep Space 9 the Tellarite Gann described the story of The Prodigal from the Bajoran religion as a fairy tale, Keiko was quick to point out the young Tellarite should show a little more respect to other people's beliefs, the stories of their faith being sacred to the Bajoran people.
