A field ration (also called rations or ration packs) is a pre-packaged meal carried by military troops in combat and other field operations, which require little or no preparation.
In 2268 Cervantes Quinn had a bundle of compact field rations on the starship Dulcinea that he was planning to take back to the injured Bridget McLellan. (VAN - Declassified novella: The Stars Look Down)
Starfleet had at least 47 varieties of field rations.
