Starship Trekkers is a satirical comic strip appearing in Star Trek Magazine, starting with US issue #41. The strip features "The Worst Crew in Starfleet!", the crew of the USS Armitage, and presents stories in a comedic fashion. The characters and settings are original but are loosely based on existing ones from the Star Trek universe.
Setting[]
While the series clearly takes place in the 24th Century, its exact timeline placement is unclear. Most of the characters wear TNG uniforms, implying that this may take place during the run of that series or shortly thereafter. Ensign Bunsen, however, appears to have a Star Trek: First Contact-era uniform, inexplicably.
The first comic clearly sets the story long after the events of "Encounter at Farpoint", with a rebuilt Farpoint Station. Besides that, few clues have been given in the series.
Comics[]
- US #41 - Brief Encounter at Farpoint

- US #43 - A Sock Time
- Ensign Bunsen and Lt. Bucket discuss the Captain's strange behavior -- how he promoted Mr. Sock to first officer and setting course for Sock's home planet. Bucket explains that Mr. Sock is a Sok'an, a symbiotic life-form made of natural fibers. They arrive at planet Sok'Drwr, where Sock must participate in the ancient festival of Pa'ring, in which two Sok'an fight to the death using weapons made from razor-sharp toenail clippings. The winner becomes part of a pair. Sock is fatally wounded in the battle, but Bunsen is able to darn him together again. However, because the wrong color thread was used, Priestess Ny'lon declares that Sock is unable to be paired.

Characters[]
- Captain Clinch
- Captain Clinch was a Starfleet officer serving in the 24th century. He was the commanding officer of the USS Armitage. He often consulted his sock puppet, "Mr. Sock", for command decisions. When the Armitage visited Farpoint Station to pick up Ensign Bunsen, the colony there fell under attack by a star-jelly who was enraged at its daughter dating Bunsen. After consulting Mr. Sock, Clinch ordered to retreat, on the basis that their mission was only to pick up Bunsen.
- Mr. Sock
- A Sok'an. Captain Clinch was his host, and Mr. Sock seemed to have much influence over him. Captain Clinch eventually promoted Sock to First Officer, which seemed strange to the other crewmembers, to whom Mr. Sock appeared to be an ordinary sock puppet. Soon afterward, the Armitage visited the Sok'an homeworld, Sok'drwr, where Sock battled another Sok'an in the ritual of Pai'ring, in which he was to be paired with another Sok'an. Sock was mortally wounded during the battle, but luckily Ensign Bunsen was quickly able to darn him, thus saving his life. However, because of the darning, he could not be paired.
- Lieutenant Bucket
- Lieutenant Bucket was a humanoid robot with a bucket-shaped head, serving in Starfleet on the Federation starship USS Armitage in the 24th century.
- Doctor Ann Dorian
- Doctor Ann Dorian was an Andorian physician, serving on the USS Armitage in the 24th century. She appeared to have telepathy.
- Her telepathy may be evidence of some Aenar ancestry.
- Mister Woof
- Ensign Bunsen
- Ensign Bunsen was a Human Starfleet officer serving aboard the USS Armitage in the 24th century. At the rebuilt Farpoint Station, Bunsen dated Blobulette, a Star-jelly, before her parent returned and attacked the colony again. Bunsen returned to the Armitage, which then retreated. Shortly thereafter, on Gateway, Bunsen jumped through the Gateway to Forever into the past, where he got married to Joan Collins. At the wedding party, his shipmates caught up with him.
- Blobulette
- Blobulette was a Star-jelly adolescent in the 24th century. She was the offspring of the same Star-Jellies rescued by the USS Enterprise in 2364. In some unknown year, she visited Farpoint Station, where she met Starfleet Ensign Bunsen. The two went on a date, which was interrupted by Blobulette's parent. The larger Jelly retrieved Blobulette and attacked the colony, which the USS Armitage witnessed and retreated from.
