The Craeul class was a Romulan starship class, a frigate warbird in Romulan Republic, and later Federation, service from the 2410s decade. The Craeul class was an auxiliary vessel attached to the Valkis-class temporal heavy dreadnought cruiser. (STO mission: "Reckoning", STO website: 26 Century Dreadnought Stats!)
Specifications[]
The Craeul class was launched at some point before the Battle of Procyon V, alongside the Federation Starfleet Cestus and Klingon Defense Force baSro' frigates. These frigates served as auxiliary vessels to their heavy dreadnought cruiser motherships. The Craeul class resembled a miniaturised version of its mothership, the Valkis-class dreadnought warbird.
As a warbird, the Craeul class was powered by a singularity core.
Due to the Temporal Cold War, this class became available to the Romulan Republican Force in the 25th century, where it was found across Valkis-class warbirds. In that era, ships of the class included four weapon slots. These were equipped with two plasma beam arrays (fore and aft), a plasma dual beam bank (fore) and one frontal quantum torpedo launcher. In addition, in-built abilities included the option to fire at will, "scratch the paint", fire a high-yield torpedo, and "channeled destruction". On frigates that were rated "advanced" and "elite", the weapon systems were the same but the abilities more effective in combat, and the additional ability to transfer emergency power to weapons was added. (STO mission: "Reckoning", STO website: 26 Century Dreadnought Stats!)
History[]
The class was based on the experimental 24th century USS Altair design. This Federation Starfleet class entered production as Cestus-class, and was used as a heavy dreadnought cruiser auxiliary ship in the 26th century. Its Romulan and Klingon counterparts were the RRW Craeul and IKS baSro', respectively. Ships of these classes were pivotal in helping defeat the Sphere Builders during the war that culminated in the Battle of Procyon V.
Due to the Temporal Cold War, the Craeul class became available to the Romulan Republican Force in the 2410s.
The class, and its mothership, were still in use around the year 2769. (STO mission: "Reckoning", STO website: 26 Century Dreadnought Stats!)
