Voyages of the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701), Year One

Between 2264 and 2270, the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) was under the command of Captain James T. Kirk. During his tenure as captain, the Enterprise was a major component in many events of Alpha Quadrant history, as well as minor, run-of-the-mill missions. Below is a list of all adventures undertaken by the Enterprise during the first year of the historic five-year mission, covering 2264 and 2265.

Stardate 1278.4

In an official change-of-command ceremony, Captain James T. Kirk relieved Fleet Captain Christopher Pike. (TOS novel: The Captain's Oath)

Kirk remembered this as the only time he'd met Pike. (TOS episode: "The Menagerie")

Two slightly different versions of the ceremony occur in TOS novel: Enterprise: The First Adventure and TOS comic: "All Those Years Ago...". Since "All Those Years Ago..." takes place immediately after Pike's meeting with Kirk, while The First Adventure depicts a longer voyage. Although they are somewhat contradictory, for ordering purposes, "All Those Years Ago" should take place after the initial chapters of Enterprise: The First Adventure but before the mission shown in the later sections of the book.

Stardate 1278.40: Kirk's first cruise aboard Enterprise was to transport Pike to his next assignment on Draxis II. En route, the Enterprise once again encountered the Tralmanii, a race that Pike had once dealt with before when he commanded the Enterprise. (TOS comic: "All Those Years Ago...")

At Draxis II, the Enterprise delivered medical supplies for the world's colonists. (TOS novel: The Captain's Oath)

Stardate 0000.5: Following the transfer of command from Captain Pike, Kirk expected to be assigned a longer exploration mission. Admiral Kimitake Noguchi ordered Kirk to take the Warp-Speed Classic Vaudeville Company around the Federation Phalanx. The mission proved to be anything but simple, after an encounter with the renegade Klingon, Koronin, and an alien generational ship. (TOS novel: Enterprise: The First Adventure)

Stardate 1297.80: Shortly after Lieutenant Nyota Uhura's assignment to the Enterprise, Captain Kirk and a landing party were taken prisoner by the Klingons. Willing to save her captain and crewmates, Uhura stole a shuttlecraft and eventually rescued the landing party. (TOS comic: "Uhura's Story")

On Kirk's first significant mission after assuming command, the Enterprise was sent to Karabos II to retrieve Starfleet scientists before terraforming comets struck the planet. Kirk's former shipmate Rhenas Sherev and her team recovered irreplaceable information about extinct species in an excavated vault. The Enterprise diverted the comets and helped salvage the Aulacri's heritage. (TOS novel: The Captain's Oath)

Stardate 1305.4: The Enterprise stopped for supplies on Aldebaran III, where Dr. Leonard McCoy took a leave of absence to Starbase 6, and Dr. Elizabeth Dehner and Ensign David Bailey signed aboard. The Enterprise then began a star-mapping mission of Sector Epsilon Z-3, and discovered the mysterious planet Kapeshet. Upon beaming down to Kapeshet, Kirk and his landing party were sent back in time to the 21st century to witness the true first contact between humans and Vulcans. They were subsequently returned to the 23rd century and their memories of the mission were erased. (TOS novel: Strangers from the Sky)

Stardate 1136.2: The Enterprise participated in a first contact with the spider-like Archernarians on Archernar IV. (TOS - Mission's End comic: "Issue 1")

While the Enterprise was on a survey mission to Dimorus, one of the Dimorans attempted to kill Captain Kirk with a poison dart, but the dart was taken by Lieutenant Commander Gary Mitchell. (TOS episode: "Where No Man Has Gone Before" and TOS - My Brother's Keeper novel: Enterprise)

Stardate 1003.6: Mitchell left the ship for over three months to recuperate. During this time, the Enterprise was ordered to intercept an alien spaceship in the Mandylion Rift, which had registered as traveling at warp 15. On arrival in the Rift, they discovered that the Klingons were also expressing an interest. The aliens issue Kirk and Commander Kaul of the Klingons a challenge: one of each their crewmembers have to scale a mountain; whoever wins will receive the knowledge of their technology. Kirk sent Lieutenant Hounslaw Tanaka, but he failed the challenge and fell to her death. (TOS novel: Captain's Peril)

After Gary returned, the Enterprise was redirected from the Muhlari system to Starbase 31, where she took aboard Admiral Ellen Mangione and her team. Mangione then diverted the ship to a planet in the Klingon Neutral Zone, where they were to check on the Klingon renegades, the M'tachtar. The M'tachtar managed to seize control of the Enterprise and headed for Qo'noS. Thankfully, Captain Kirk and his crew, along with the help of Commander Kang, managed to regain control. The Enterprise was summoned to the Noah system by Emperor MacMurray, who demanded to be worshiped as Emperor of the whole galaxy. Kirk was able to negotiate with MacMurray and was appointed Royal High Minister Plenipotentiary for MacMurray, in what became known as the MacMurray Encounter. (TOS novel: The Galactic Whirlpool)

Shortly after, the Enterprise was dispatched to the planet Tendar on a first contact mission, following the Tendarans' movements towards warp drive. Captain Kirk and Lt. Commanders Spock and Gary Mitchell beamed down to meet the Prime Minister, but instead of being greeted, were arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment. Despite attempts to negotiate by Montgomery Scott, in command of the Enterprise, the Tendarans refused, stating that they wanted to make an example out of the prisoners. (TOS comic: "Prisoners")

The Enterprise attempted to save Mestiko from a rogue pulsar, but was only partially successful. (TOS - Mere Anarchy eBook: Things Fall Apart)

Enterprise barrier — The USS *Enterprise* approaching the galactic barrier.

Stardate 1312.4: In April 2265, Admiral Saylor ordered the Enterprise to the galactic barrier, where they discovered a disaster marker from the SS Valiant. Kirk ordered the Enterprise to probe beyond the barrier, which resulted in the death of nine crewmembers and the creation of god-like abilities in Gary Mitchell and Dr. Dehner. Kirk decided to maroon Mitchell on Delta Vega, but Mitchell was too powerful and a fight broke out. It was thanks to the actions of Dehner that Mitchell was defeated. It was stated in Constitution that Kirk had been in command of the Enterprise for 13 months.

Stardate 1321.6: The Enterprise headed for Starbase 33 to be debriefed by Admiral Saylor. En route, they entered the Taurus Reach and stopped off at Vanguard (Starbase 47) for repairs. The repairs were rushed so that the Enterprise could investigate the destruction of the USS Bombay and the Starfleet listening post in the Ravanar system. (VAN novel: Harbinger)

After leaving Vanguard, the Enterprise continued on to Starbase 33 and Kirk was debriefed. Following the debriefing, the Enterprise returned to Earth (a journey of ten weeks) to attend the funeral of Gary Mitchell. On Earth, Janice Rand and Dr. McCoy joined the Enterprise crew. Harbinger featured Uhura as already being aboard the Enterprise following "Where No Man Has Gone Before", which is at odds with My Brother's Keeper.

While the Enterprise was traveling to Earth for Gary Mitchell's funeral, Captain Kirk tried to compose a letter to Gary's parents. Unable to write the truth about Gary's death, Kirk instead wrote a story about an adventure that Kirk and Mitchell had aboard the Farragut. (TOS comic: "Gary")

Stardate 1298.9: The Enterprise came to the aid of a stricken craft and evacuated its crew, two related reptilian species called the Anjiri and the Nykkus, the former being the planners and the latter functioning as soldiers. They requested passage to an Orion outpost where they stole a yacht. The Enterprise followed them to their home in an asteroid field where Kirk and Uhura met the Anjiri matriarch, learning they scavenged ships in order to turn them into dwellings. The Anjiri promised to avoid Federation space in future. (TOS - The Captain's Table novel: War Dragons)

Three days out from Starbase 45, the USS Collins suffered a warp core breach. Sulu and Bailey prepared to tow any escape pods with a tractor beam, while the transporter room evacuated the crew. Wracked with guilt, Admiral Patricia Carlson intended to go down with her ship, and Scott beamed Kirk and McCoy aboard to appeal to her senses. Spock warned that doing so was a breach of regulations, but they succeeded. (TOS - Spock: Reflections comic: "Issue 3")

While exploring the Sigma Draconis sector, the Enterprise abruptly crashed into a planet composed of a dense liquid that disabled propulsion, shields and weapons. Sigma fishmen encountered the ship and attempted to capture its strange visitors. A freeze gun cannon enveloped the Enterprise in ice to float it to the surface, where deflectors could break the ice and the starship was able to escape the globular planet. In the Sigma Draconis sector, Kirk and Spock investigated an Eldorian spy ship, only to be abducted by a long distance transporter and forced into a trial by combat on Norus. To rescue them, Montgomery Scott and other officers joined the crew of the Eldorian warship Lebron during its invasion of Norus. (TOS comic: "Menace of the Moloth")

Exploring the Sigma Draconis sector, the Enterprise rescued marooned Thaxians on a junkyard planet. Actually exiled rebels, Captain Kandok and his crew soon took control of the starship. Kirk and Spock warned the homeworld, but rather than assist, Thax aimed nuclear missiles at the Enterprise. Kirk and Spock stormed the bridge, forcing the Thaxians to withdraw and escape in a shuttlecraft. After the shuttle was destroyed by a Thaxian missile, Kirk decided he'd had enough of this sector. Chariot race.

While investigating an uninhabited space station, a long distance transporter beamed Kirk, Spock and McCoy to a distant world where they were captured by Roman soldiers and forced into a chariot race. Kirk won, then struck the world's robotic Caesar, shattering its hypnotic hold over the populace. The Enterprise was able to retrieve the landing party. (TOS comic: "I, Emperor")

Dorado shields — *Dorado* under attack at Necros.

When the crew of the Federation border patrol ship Dorado mutinied, the Enterprise was ordered to stop them from entering Klingon space. During a confrontation, Erhard Voss jettisoned and ignited his ship's main fuel, producing a massive explosion which crippled the Enterprise. Dorado diverted from Scaptar after Klingons betrayed them and headed for Necros. With help from Spock's cousin Horek, however, Voss was tricked into leaving Necros and returning to Federation space, where the Enterprise could disable Dorado. (TOS comic: "Mutiny on the Dorado")

Palnak collection — Trapped in Palnak's museum.

An Enterprise probe studying Palnak's planet drew the attention of Palnak in the 33rd century, and he used time travel to bring the probe, Kirk and Spock into the future, where he tried to preserve them as exhibits in his museum. Their disappearance prompted Scotty to launch two rescue shuttlecraft, which were also brought forward in time, but Kirk and Spock were able to escape, and Spock set the temporal equipment to return them all to their original time. As Kirk and Spock beamed down to Santar, synchronous solar flares of Salgorax and Neptor disrupted the Enterprise's transporter, and they rematerialized on the planet Muton in an adjacent system amidst an invasion by frogmen. They helped a band of Muton native rebels repair their crashed spacecraft, and in return were given a transport to return to the Salgorax-Neptor system. (TOS comic: "Slaves of the Frogmen")

The Enterprise monitored a probe on Nova XIII launched by the Trans-Galactic Zoological Federation. When telemetry abruptly ceased, Kirk and Scott took a shuttle to investigate. They were captured by natives and brought before a government council. With their universal translator damaged, they were unable to communicate. Concerned that they were going to be executed, they escaped and returned to the Enterprise, unable to recover the probe. (TOS comic: "Nova-Thirteen")

Near the Perseant Alpha system, a temporal disruption sent the Enterprise 400 years into the past. The crew found themselves in orbit of Zeltok two weeks prior to its destruction. A shuttle team explored the surface, discovering Karn, the last surviving Zeltok, as well as sentient races of ants and gorillas. Karn refused to be rescued, and a subsequent astral storm returned the Enterprise to the 23rd century. (TOS comic: "Vibrations in Time")

Starfleet ordered the Enterprise to investigate suspicious military activity on Korak. Zodians attacked the starship, then quickly surrendered. They confessed that capture was the only way they thought they could escape from the dangerous planet. An Enterprise shuttle was wrecked by a dinosaur, and the Zodians gave their lives to save the shuttle. (TOS comic: "The Zodian Sacrifice")

Ben franklin — Android duplicate of Benjamin Franklin.

Stardate 1026.3: While surveying the supposedly uninhabited Gamma Alpha V, the Enterprise discovered a city populated by android duplicates of historical figures, including George Washington. Spock was abducted by Alexander Lazarus, the androids' creator, but escaped just prior to the planet's destruction. (TOS comic: "The Legacy of Lazarus")

Stardate 1126.1: The Enterprise went to Pollux II to investigate the disappearance of several spaceships in the vicinity. They discovered that the people were being captured by Malok so that he could stimulate emotional responses in them and then absorb the emotions into himself. Malok was defeated when he absorbed emotional Vulcan minds that the Enterprise had intended to transport to Beta IV. (TOS comic: "The Brain Shockers")

Stardate 1248.6: En route through Sector Vega 6 to a rendezvous with Ambassador Mason at Starbase 10, the Enterprise was captured by Chang, a self-proclaimed sorcerer, who threatened to destroy the ship unless Kirk and Spock obtained for him a magical sceptre. After finding the sceptre, they discovered that the quest was merely a ruse to distract them while Chang seized control of the Enterprise, and defeated him. (TOS comic: "Sceptre of the Sun")

Stardate 1483.4: The Traveler hijacked the Enterprise to take him to his homeworld, only to find it in ruins and his people conquered by his brother Niklon. He and an Enterprise landing party overthrew his brother and freed his people. (TOS comic: "Dark Traveler")

GK17-Dukar-dinosaur — Dinosaur on Dukar.

Spock was attacked by a huge dinosaur during his survey of Dukar. Atmospheric interference blocked the transporter, and he was forced to kill the animal. During this incident, Queen Lok of the planet Neesan received an empathic impression of the incident and believed it to be an image of her god, Unruho. (TOS comic: "The Cosmic Cavemen")

During their watch on Orthoo, Enterprise security guards lost the Great Eye of Ara, a holy relic. Kirk paid King Yo a fortune in credits for compensatory damages. Unknown to him, guard Red Garvin had stolen the artifact, and it was later recovered. (TOS comic: "Furlough to Fury")
