The Hephaestus-class was a type of Federation advanced escort starship in Starfleet service in the early 25th century, a subclass of the Prometheus design. These vessels were usually commanded by an officer holding the rank of one-star rear admiral or higher. An enhanced version, the fleet advanced escort, was available for vice admirals. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Specifications[]

The Hephaestus-class was an escort, i.e. a Starfleet warship. Phaser cannons were standard equipment on these ships. The saucer, nacelles, pylons and hull were interchangeable with Cerberus-, Phoenix- and Prometheus-class starships. Compared to its mother class, the Hephaestus looked lean and mean. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Livery[]

In the 25th century, the design of the Hephaestus-class advanced escort allowed its commanding officer to choose from different designs of livery, which could be modified further at starbases. These options were designated Type 1-5 and Veteran. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Furthermore, the installation of deflector shields from specific factions modified the hull appearance, including shields from the Reman Resistance, the Breen Confederacy and the Dominion. (STO missions: "Coliseum", "Cold Storage", "Boldly They Rode")
