Kodos death

Lenore mourns her father in costume as Ophelia.

Ophelia was a fictional character, a Human woman who was one of only two female characters in William Shakespeare's play Hamlet. A potential wife of Prince Hamlet, Ophelia was portrayed in the play as a young noblewoman of Denmark, the daughter of Polonius and sister of Laertes.

Biography[]

In Klingonese translations of Hamlet, the name Ophelia is rendered as 'ovelya. (The Klingon Hamlet)

In a production of Hamlet staged by the Karidian company of actors while traveling aboard the Federation starship USS Enterprise, the character of Ophelia was played by Lenore Karidian. During the show, Kevin Riley approached the stage intending to attack Lenore's father Anton Karidian, who was believed to have attempted to murder Riley and previously to have killed Riley's parents under the name Kodos the Executioner.

When James T. Kirk and Security Officer Harrison attempted to intervene, the true murderess was revealed to be Lenore. Interrupting her scene as Ophelia, she stole Harrison's phaser and attempted to murder Kirk, but accidentally killed her father instead, in front of a horrified audience of Enterprise personnel. (TOS episode & Star Trek 1 novelization: The Conscience of the King; TOS novel: Foul Deeds Will Rise)
