The USS Io[4] (NCC-80105[1]) was a 24th century Federation starship, a Luna-class science vessel in Starfleet service from the 2370s decade. (TTN novel: Sword of Damocles, Titan Fold-out)

Its commanding officer was Captain T'Vrea. (ST novel: Articles of the Federation)

The Jovian moon Io.

Like all Luna-class starships, the Io was named after a moon in the Sol star system. (TNG novel: Greater Than the Sum)

Io was a moon of the planet Jupiter. (TOS movie & novelization: Star Trek Into Darkness)

Active service[]

The first batch of Luna-class starships entered service in the year 2379. (TTN novel: Taking Wing Luna Class Concept Notes)

Early the following year of the First Splinter[6] timeline, the Io made first contact with the Trinni/ek. They later were responsible for discovering the unusual radioactive properties of their sun, after both the Io crew and the Trinni/ek delegation to Earth fell ill due to their effects.

In August 2380, first officer Commander Thérèse Su appeared as a panelist on Illuminating the City of Light, to discuss the developing relations between the Federation and the Trinni/ek. (ST novel: Articles of the Federation) (ST novel: Articles of the Federation)

In May 2381, the Io was involved in the survey of an asteroid field. (ST novel: A Singular Destiny)

Also that year, the Io's warp core needed to be replaced, so that the Totality would not be able to destroy the ship. (TOS novel: Captain's Glory)
