The Pythus class[2] was a Vaadwaur starship type, an assault ship and fighter class in Vaadwaur Supremacy service in the 15th century until 1484 and from the 2370s decade onwards. Vessels of this class could operate independently of larger starships when grouped in a battalion, and were later used as small craft by the Khitomer Alliance. (VOY episode: "Dragon's Teeth", STO - The Delta Quadrant mission: "The Dragon's Deceit")

Specifications[]

The ship was approximately 70 meters long and operated by a single pilot. The nimble craft was designed for atmospheric and spatial dogfights, featuring a pair of particle cannons mounted in front of the cockpit. They were equipped with variable shield harmonics that could attract other ships to the Underspace. Like the Turei's frigates, they were capable of expelling ships from the underspace. (The Official Starships Collection Issue 139: "Vaadwaur Attack Fighter"; Star Trek: The Magazine vol. 1, Issue 24: "Briefing: The Vaadwaur")

Fighters of this class operated by the Alpha Quadrant Alliance crewed three officers, and were armed with 360°-operating polaron beam array, quantum torpedo launcher. When in use by the AQA, such a fighter could attain transwarp and quantum slipstream drive velocities. (STO - Delta Rising mission: "Spin the Wheel")

Service history[]

A Pythus in 1484.

The Pythus-class assault ship was first launched in the 15th century. The Vaadwaur assault ship was subsequently used for raids on other species, and conquest, utilising underspace. (The Official Starships Collection Issue 139: "Vaadwaur Attack Fighter")

With the destruction of Vaadwaur civilization in 1484 by an alliance of species, including the Turei, the Pythus class ceased operating. A battalion of 73 assault ships survived underground on Vaadwaur Prime. In 2376, 892 years later, Seven of Nine from the Federation starship USS Voyager awoke the surviving Vaadwaur from suspended animation. Following a skirmish with Voyager and then the Turei, the surviving Vaadwaur fled into underspace with 53 assault ships. (VOY episode: "Dragon's Teeth", Star Trek: The Magazine vol. 1, Issue 24: "Briefing: The Vaadwaur")

With the help of the Iconian Whole and their control of Vaadwaur leadership by means of Bluegill parasites, the surviving Vaadwaur recovered more hidden battalions throughout the Delta Quadrant and thus revived Vaadwaur Supremacy in 2409. (STO - The Delta Quadrant mission: "Takedown")

With the establishment of the Delta Alliance, the Ferengi-owned Lobi Crystal Consortium began selling fighters of this class to AQA commanding officers for 300 Lobi crystals apiece. (STO - Delta Rising mission: "Spin the Wheel")
