Like all Luna-class starships, the Triton was named after a moon in the Sol star system. In this instance, Triton. In turn, these were named after Human mythology from the history of the planet Earth. (TNG novel: Greater Than the Sum)
A Defiant-class destroyer named USS Triton was active by the year 2376. (ST video game: Armada)
In the 2370s, this Triton saw combat against the Borg Collective and Species 8472. The Triton remained active until 2379. (ST video game: Armada II)
Active service[]
The first batch of Luna-class starships entered service in the year 2379. The USS Galatea was also named after a Neptunian moon. (TTN novel: Taking Wing, "Luna Class Concept Notes")
