Unity One was a Unity-class starbase that was constructed as a joint project between the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire. It was stationed in the Klingon Border Region, close to the Romulan Neutral Zone.

The Unity base was developed in the year 2378 with the intention of making the most advanced starbase in the galaxy in order to represent the accomplishments of the alliance between the Klingons and the Federation. As part of the design, the station's sophisticated sensor array allowed it to detect even cloaked vessels that were many sectors away.

Admiral Arai has hinted that these sensors would be able to detect cloaked ships from 20 light-years away which, according to Tal Shiar calculations, ran them a radius of eight sectors' worth of space around Unity One.

The nature of the outpost meant that the Romulan Star Empire dispatched Arai to find a means of destroying Unity One due to its sensor array extending into the Romulan Neutral Zone.

Following the destruction of Unity One in the year 2379, Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the USS Enterprise-E{ travelled to Starbase 297, which would act as their base of operations during the investigation into the Unity's loss. (ST video game: Starfleet Command III)
