Flaherty was a crewman in Starfleet in the late 23rd century. Pavel Chekov was his immediate supervisor. He drank with Pavel Chekov and Hicks at his bachelor party aboard the USS Enterprise-A in 2287. When Montgomery Scott noticed the vodka on Hicks's breath, Flaherty's name was mentioned.
