Food synthesizer
Memory Beta, the wiki for licensed Star Trek content.
The food synthesizer (aka food processor or, more colloquially, food slot) was a receptacle for synthesizing food and beverages that were a commonly integrated into starships and starbases in the 23rd century. Unlike the replicators of the 24th century, food synthesizers were seen as a supplement to a starship's chef.
Food orders could be made through inserting a program tape or card into a slot on the synthesizer. Although voice command facilities were starting to appear on synthesizers as early as 2270, and was taken as a standard throughout the rest of the 23rd century. (Star Trek: The Original Series; TAS episode: "The Practical Joker").
A similar device, referred to as an autokitchen, was available in student housing units on the campus of Berkeley University in the late 2260s. (TOS novel: Prime Directive)
