Memory Beta, non-canon Star Trek Wiki

A friendly reminder regarding spoilers! At present the expanded Trek universe is in a period of major upheaval with the continuations of Discovery and Prodigy, the advent of new eras in gaming with the Star Trek Adventures RPG, Star Trek: Infinite and Star Trek Online, as well as other post-57th Anniversary publications such as the ongoing IDW Star Trek comic and spin-off Star Trek: Defiant. Therefore, please be courteous to other users who may not be aware of current developments by using the {{spoiler}}, {{spoilers}} OR {{majorspoiler}} tags when adding new information from sources less than six months old (even if it is minor info). Also, please do not include details in the summary bar when editing pages and do not anticipate making additions relating to sources not yet in release. THANK YOU

Ten ForwardAn ongoing project for some brave soul... (Reply | Watch)

In order to both promote Memory Beta and increase traffic to the site as well as provide additional resources to users of Memory Alpha, there should be links from MA articles (in the External links section) to corresponding MB articles. These links exist in some cases; I just went through and added a bunch more for all the articles listed on the MB main page in the Star Trek Series section. There are many more that could be added currently, and more added as MB grows. I add the links when I'm already editing an article (and when I think of it), but it would probably be best if a regular MB contributor worked on this, both now and ongoing. There are already two templates in place to make the links easier: {{NCwiki}} for anything that's not a title, and {{NCwiki-title}} for anything that is a title (the title text is italicized). Anyone up for it? -- Renegade54 03:55, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

I used to always link articles here to Memory Alpha and would occasionally link your articles to ours via the "Apocrypha" sections (Spock and Riker to name two). When the "feud" started, I ceased the practice, but think that both wiki's would be stronger if we worked in tandem. As Ayelborne once told me, "It is true that in the future that you and Memory Alpha will become fast friends, you will work together." "Never!", I cried, although I saw the logic in it.
Although time restraints will prevent me from taking on this project in full, I will do what I can when I do have the time.
Of course, your idea works both ways. Would you be willing to let us link the headers from, say, your New Frontier characters page to that characters page here? (BTW, Number One and Morgan Primus have never been established as being the same person.) --Turtletrekker 08:14, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
I think you're misunderstanding what I'm saying. What I'm suggesting/asking for is exactly what you're talking about... links from Memory Alpha articles to Memory Beta articles. This is especially beneficial, I think, for Memory Alpha's rather measly non-canon articles (books, comics, etc.), where a link back to Memory Beta could present a user with a much more in depth treatment of ongoing characters, storylines, crossovers, and such. -- Renegade54 19:49, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

Feud? When did this happen?--Emperorkalan 12:33, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

As far as I'm concerned, there is no feud. It's all Star Trek, and our goals are similar and complimentary. When I edit an article on Memory Alpha, I always add Memory Beta links when the corresponding article exists here to link to. What I haven't done is an exhaustive article-by-article search/comparison/link. -- Renegade54 19:49, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
There is no feud, as far as I have seen. A few months back, we had a single user, one who did not at all represent what your average Memory Alpha editor is like, who trash talked Memory Beta. Very quickly, he was told how wrong he was, and that what he had said was not only wrong, but on the verge of a policy violation (I felt it was, but hey). I was the first to respond to him. No one agreed with him. He stopped editing on Memory Alpha 4 days and 2 edits later. This was an editor who did not follow other policies. He left nonsense on other talk pages, and generally was not a great contributor. That is the closest I have seen to a feud. I myself have even been adding links to Memory Beta in our articles as I notice they are missing. I would edit here, except that I do not have almost any novels, and my time is pretty much filled over at Memory Alpha and other projects in my life. You guys do great work here. --OuroborosCobra talk Klingon Empire 20:51, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
I agree with Renegade and Cobra – Memory Beta is as great a reference as Memory Alpha, and articles on MA should have links to the articles on MB, where applicable. I, too, have a similar problem as Cobra, though: while I have several of the Trek novels, it has been a long time since I read any of them, so any contributions here will be limited. But I do visit from time to time and am very impressed, so keep up the excellent work! :) --From Andoria with Love 20:58, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
You're right I did misunderstand. thats what happens when I post after an 8 hour shift and an hours drive home (hence my time constraints). AS for the non-existant "feud", that't why I put the word in "quotes", as I realized that it was mostly just me taking offense. (-; --Turtletrekker 21:22, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
