Ten Forward → Renaming categories - Is it possible? (Reply | Watch) |
Is it possible to rename categories? I ask because the shuttlecraft previously known as McCall-type has now been confirmed as the McCall-class in the novel Armageddon's Arrow. I've amended all the references to McCall-type that I can find, but I'm unable to change the name of the Category:McCall-type shuttlecraft. Is this something that an Admin can do, or will the page need to be deleted and another set-up? Thanks -- Cyfa (talk) 13:59, May 27, 2015 (UTC)
- Create a new category with the proper name and begin moving things over. When that's done, the old will be deleted. The reason behind this is that the categories are actually on the pages. -- sulfur (talk) 15:35, May 27, 2015 (UTC)
Ah, thanks sulfur. -- Cyfa (talk) 07:11, May 30, 2015 (UTC)
- Furthermore, i feel the need to point out that the categorization as "McCall type" was erroneous to begin with. We should NOT be coming up with our own names for "unknown"/"unnamed" classes -- that is original research and is quite un-encyclopedic. Just FYI for the next time someone feels like naming a Lollipop-"type" starship or somesuch -- you're probably wrong to be doing so. - Captain MKB 03:33, May 28, 2015 (UTC)
- Noted. Perhaps the points you've raised here would also be served as part of the Memory Beta:Naming conventions article (or its talk page) so other users will become aware of them when specifically researching how to name an article? -- Cyfa (talk) 07:11, May 30, 2015 (UTC)
