A frigate was a starship classification applied to the smallest starships fielded by a galactic state. Frigates were designed to be fast and protected larger vessels while conducting general service missions. Frigates can be further typified as support frigates, fast frigates, light frigates, battle frigates, commando frigates and heavy frigates.
