The Gaetano Region was an outlying region of the Orion Colonies.

During the New Days of Orion history, a period of colonial expansion, great wealth and cultural blooming, a growing strength in the outer regions coincided with a weakening centralized government at Botchok, the homeworld. Many Colonies grew tired of paying taxes to Rigel and getting little back in exchange, and so minor disputes over tariffs and trade agreements escalated into full-scale corporate warfare. Some Colonies formally broke off relations with Botchok and declared their independence

The first of these were the Colonies of the Gaetano Region, which declared their independence in May 879 CE (reference stardate −12/7905). This triggered a war with the Botchok Planetary Congress (BPC). The BPC hired additional ships from the Anor, Guilpin and Sark Regions, but a lack of funds forced an end to combat. No formal peace was ever made, and taxes arriving at Botchok trickled to a halt.

Before 867 CE (stardate −12/67), all fifteen of the outermost regions had effectively seceded from the BPC, beginning the break-up of the Orion Colonies. (FASA RPG modules: The Orions: Book of Common Knowledge, The Orions: Book of Deep Knowledge)
