In the mirror universe, Gardner was an Admiral in command of the Terran Empire's fleet, stationed on Earth.

He angrily rebuffed Commander Archer's demand for Starfleet to surrender, threatening to fire on the Defiant if he continued to approach Earth. After Hoshi Sato took over the Defiant by poisoning Archer, she raised Gardner as "Empress Sato" upon arrival, telling him to stand down and await instructions, or she would open fire on Earth.
